What is a QDF file?
The .qdf file extension is used for a data file format, which was developed by Intuit, Inc. for one of their accounting and financial tools. These QDF files are also classified as financial and accounting data files, and these are generated by the Quicken software, which is a personal finance management application that was also created by Intuit, Inc. This software provides users with a set of tools for encoding, calculating and managing their financial records and tax details. These .qdf files are also called Quicken financial data files. These QDF files contain financial and accounting data. In earlier Quicken versions (before Quicken 2010), a .qdf file may be a compiled document that stores financial data saved in other documents with different file formats, which were also created by the user through the Quicken software. These .qdf files are also considered as the main document file format that is used by the Quicken software. The average lifespan of a business computer is three to five years, and when the computer gives up the ghost, it often comes suddenly, without any warning. When that time comes, recovering financial records and business operations data has the highest priority. If you use Intuit’s Quicken in your business, you can recover lost data and restore your Quicken data files.
Restore Data Using Quicken’s Built-in Functions
2.
Locate the last backup device. This may be a flash drive, diskette or external hard disk. Mount the device. If backups were performed to the local drive, and that drive is damaged, you will be unable to restore your Quicken files in this manner and will need to use your most recent external backup.
3.
Click “File,” then “Backup and Restore” and then “Restore” to open the restore window. Enter the drive letter of the backup device, then click “Enter.” After a minute or so, the data will be restored and it should show in your main Quicken window.
4.
Enter any transactions that occurred since the last backup.
Restore Files from Backup Media
1.
Locate your backup media and install any software necessary to retrieve the data.
3.
Start your backup/restore software or explore the backup device and locate the folder “My DocumentsQuicken.”
4.
Restore or copy the data found in the Quicken folder from the backup into the new “My DocumentsQuicken” folder.
5.
Start Quicken and click “File,” then “Open.” Browse to the new “My DocumentsQuicken” folder and select the file with the extension QDF, which is the Quicken Data File. If there are more than one of these files, open each until the most recent checks appear.
6.
Enter any transactions that occurred since the last backup.
Tip
Earlier versions of Quicken saved the data in a variety of folders. If “My DocumentsQuicken” does not exist on the backup, try “Program FilesQuickenData” or search for files with the extension QDF.
